Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
